Something Old, New, Borrowed & Blue

The idea of having these 4 things on your wedding day is a tradition that dates back to the Victorian era and represents good luck

Something Old represents a link from the brides family and past to symbolize continuity.
Something New represents good luck for the newly wedded couples future together.
Something Borrowed represents that friends and family will be there whenever help or support is needed.
Something Blue represents faithfulness, loyalty and purity.

Because I love traditions I am encorporating these "Good Luck" charms on our wedding day, so far I have:

Something Old - not yet determined...

Something New - a pair of earrings that D gave me on Christmas

Something Borrowed - I am considering wearing a cuff bracelet that belonged to my Grandmother that my Mom now has.

Something Blue - MY SHOES! (Manolo Blahnik - Something Blue Shoes)

I was doing some research on other wedding traditions and here are some interesting tid bits!

Wearing of the Veil - historically a veil was made of heavier cloth so that if another man was love with the bride he wouldn't try to kidnap her on her wedding day because nobody would know who she was until she was un-veiled, ready to kiss her new husband.

Wedding Cake - originally bread was broken over the brides head and guests would scramble to pick up the crumbs for good luck. (Ouch!) It later turned to kissing over the cutting of cake. It is said that if a single woman brings home a piece of cake and puts it under her pillow as she sleeps she will see the face of her future husband in her dreams!

What were/are you're lucky charms for your wedding? (Or traditions)
